I got called out by Gilmer Police Dept. in Upser county at 4:30 in the morning to track four subjects that had done four burglery's. The subjects had
fleed from a vehicle and ran on foot. Luctor tracked the first two about 250 yards south from the vehicle and found them hideing in the brush both
where arrested. The third subject Luctor tracked for about 300 yards west of the vehicle where he was arrested. The fourth subject was found walking
about one mile from the vehicle and was arrested. So Luctor gets three out of four that's a graet job. (No bites)

DEPUTY, DOG COLLAR DRUG BUST RECORD

A pair of Smith County Sheriff's Department officers nabbed another pair of alleged drug smugglers Thursday night
in one of the largest drug seizures in East Texas history.Sheriff J.B. Smith said Deputy John Smith and his partner
Max, a 4-year-old Dutch shepherd, were patrolling Interstate 20 near the 549 mile marker when the deputy noticed a
1996 Freightliner tractor-trailer commit two traffic violations shortly before midnight.Smith said his deputy smelled a
strong odor of raw marijuana when the passenger opened his door so he had Max search the vehicle.Inside the
empty trailer, Max located a hidden compartment, which held 2,620 pounds of marijuana and 20 kilos of cocaine.

The drugs were confiscated, as were the tractor-trailer and $3,491 in currency."I've never seen this much marijuana
at one time in my entire career. This stuff appears to be top-grade drugs," the sheriff said. "This is an outstanding
job one more time by my deputy and dog."Smith said the truck's driver, Melton McMorris, 56, and Victor C.
Thomas, 38, both of Jackson, Miss., were each arrested on one first-degree felony count of aggravated possession
of a controlled substance and one count of second-degree felony possession of marijuana.Smith said he believed the
pair were making their way from the Dallas area to Mississippi, but added that neither man was talking to
authorities."We think we hit a home run for Jackson, Miss., because we believe the drugs were headed there for
distribution."Smith said the street value on the drugs in East Texas was between $6 million and $7 million, but in
Mississippi the value would increase by as much as 20 percent. The longtime sheriff applauded the work of his
deputy and praised his dog."We've had numerous dogs, but Max is the best we have ever had," he said. "He really
loves this stuff."Smith said he believes that for each seizure law enforcement makes, 90 percent of smugglers escape
detection when transporting narcotics."We just don't have the capabilities to catch them all. The drug dealers are
playing the odds and they are winning, but we will be out there catching as many as we can," he said. "This bust
kept a lot of drugs off the streets and that's good news."Both men remain in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling
$350,000
